I don’t know if you’ve heard the news, but Pfizer—manufacturer of the prescription cholesterol-lowering statin drug Lipitor—is asking the FDA for permission to make it an over-the-counter (OTC) drug. The timing should come as no surprise. Their drug patent runs out in November and rather than risk its $11 billion annual business, Pfizer wants to put your health at risk! Folks, I can’t tell you how dangerous this is. When people arrive at the Whitaker Wellness Institute taking a statin such as Lipitor, Zocor, Pravachol, Lescol, Mevacor, or Crestor, we stop it on sight.
We don’t do this because of an irrational anti-drug bias. Some drugs are necessary. Statins, however, are terrible medications! They’re dangerous, costly, and marginally effective. Even so, their manufacturers have successfully insinuated them into our culture. In fact, right now Lipitor is one of the best-selling drugs in the world.
The public has been completely deluded about the benefits of taking Lipitor—or any of the statin drugs—for that matter. Plus, they’re left in the dark about the complications of these meds, which include liver toxicity, muscle aches, weakness, declining memory, blackout spells, and stroke, to name just a few.
What’s the bottom line for you?
* If the FDA does approve this ridiculous proposal, don’t head to your drugstore for a statin drug. Do your research and warn friends and family members about the dangers of these medications as well.
* Clearly, you can’t trust the FDA to guard your health—you need to do that for yourself. If you’re currently taking Lipitor, Zocor, Vytorin, Simcor, or any other statin drug for that matter I strongly encourage you to talk to your doctor about discontinuing the drug and replacing it with a safe, natural program for lowering your cardiovascular risk factors.
* If you must continue using a statin, make sure you’re taking 100-200 mg of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) every day. Statins can dangerously deplete your body’s CoQ10 stores putting your heart, brain, and just about every other organ at risk and, short of not taking statins, supplementing with CoQ10 is the only way to protect yourself against these damaging side effects.
Now it’s your turn: What do you think about Pfizer’s Lipitor proposal?
